Givrin
Species
In the frozen expanses of Zinyaia, society is defined by resilience. Magic-wielding women are the undisputed rulers, with the most gifted Architects and Priestesses forming the elite class. While Givrin men are not chattel within their own borders, they remain subordinate, unable to rise above the lowest-ranking female. Instead, they navigate a harsh meritocracy. Born as "Thralls" with no rights, voice, or land, a male must earn his place through grueling labor or martial feats. Those who fail are branded "soft ones," an insult to Zinya, and are relegated to menial tasks or sold into slavery. Outside their territory, however, Givrin customs yield to local law, often subjecting men to the status of the region.
To survive Zinyaia’s hostility, Givrins dwell in massive, fortified complexes, ranging from subterranean citadels to towering mountain fortresses. Masters of Earth magic, they are renowned builders. This craftsmanship is their primary export to the wider world; a Givrin abroad is typically an architect, a builder, or a mana specialist. Their unique ability to harness cold elemental power is particularly valued, allowing them to capture mana from the blizzard to power cities.
Due to their pale skin, Givrins are sensitive to the sun and heat and generally shun warm climates. Consequently, they are absent from the eastern continent (Nolitaia, Anainia, and Kinemia) but thrive along the mighty Undal's Scar mountain range. Some have adapted to tropical hubs like Mermesii, though these individuals are usually of mixed blood. In many great Sarin cities, powerful Givrin clans lead prestigious builder guilds, maintaining their influence far from the ice.
