Enerie
Species
The Eneries are a humanoid species created by Nolita, the goddess of wildlife and nature, primarily inhabiting the dense rain forests of Nolitaia. They are easily distinguished by their prominent fox-like ears and tails, as well as their oval, vertical pupils which grant them excellent peripheral vision and movement detection in thick foliage. While their internal biology and magical capacity are remarkably similar to those of the Sarins (including the physiological storage of mana), their cultural application of these gifts is entirely different. The Eneries do not seek to industrialize or refine their magic for economic gain, preferring instead to use it in resonance with the natural world.
Their society is organized into tribal structures that prioritize harmony with the environment and the protection of the rainforest. This deep bond with nature is not merely cultural but spiritual, as they view themselves as the direct guardians of Nolita’s creation. Despite this isolationist tendency, several groups have migrated over the centuries, leading to a degree of genetic and cultural mixing with other species, most notably the Niitas and the Sarins. In these mixed urban environments, Eneries often struggle with the sensory overload of civilization and the loss of their ancestral connection to the forest, though they remain highly valued for their natural instincts and tracking abilities.
Unlike the more rigid social hierarchies of the Sarin Empire, Enerie tribes operate on a system of communal responsibility and respect for the wildlife they live alongside. They view animals not as resources, but as kin under the protection of Nolita. This worldview often puts them at odds with external interests seeking to exploit the natural resources of Nolitaia. Within the tribe, their magic is most commonly used for healing, environmental manipulation, and communication with the forest's inhabitants, reflecting a lifestyle that has remained largely unchanged for generations.
The social status of Enerie males is characterized by a dynamic of domestic appreciation and absolute dominance by the females. While they are often treated with a form of affection similar to that of a pet, they possess no social autonomy and are primarily utilized as domestic servants within the tribal structure. The physically strongest or most aesthetically pleasing males are frequently selected for organized combat entertainment, similar to gladiatorial games. While a successful combatant can earn significant prestige and a more comfortable lifestyle, these rewards do not grant him any real influence or purpose within the society. His existence remains fundamentally defined by his utility to the tribe and his submission to the female leadership.
